Despite two consecutive number one box office successes (Young Einstein and Reckless Kelly) grossing over $20 million in Australia alone and Young Einstein's huge international success Ross says: "We found ourselves like all Australian producers, scratching for a couple of years to raise the finance for our new low-budget but extremely ambitious comedy. Also because we don't relinquish our creative control, including final cut, to the foreign studios, the deal making phase was unusually protracted. However owing to the popularity of Yahoo's movies in Europe and his comedy cult status with audiences in America, we were eventually able to do as we did on our previous movies and secure financing overseas."
